Last year was a busy one, but we certainly aren't slowing down for 2019. Our calendar is filling up quickly for literary events throughout the year.
Tuesday 12th March – Thursday 14th March
Last year’s London Book Fair was a pretty big deal for us. We made some connections, integrated ourselves into the global publishing network, and, most importantly for us, we signed author Dawn Finch to bring her Brotherhood of Shades trilogy to Stone Cold Fox. Perhaps our favourite moment was when we’d completed all our work in the main LBF Olympia building, retired to a hotel bar to sign the papers with Dawn, take photos, and toast with champagne and rum.
We don’t have any plans to sign an author at LBF – yet! – but we’re expecting an extremely successful event, particularly since our own Commissioning Editor is speaking at the event! Tabby will speak on the Thursday at the Womenable talk with other women who have found (or forced – no one stumbles upon it) success in their fifties. She’ll be joined by Sam Missingham, the founder and CEO of Lounge Marketing, and Kate Macdonald, the director of Handheld Books, and the session will include a Q&A, so come prepared with anything you might want to ask some of the most formidable women in publishing. Read more about the Womenable event and similar sessions here.
Bitter Leaves Book Launch
Wednesday 27th March
Next month Tabby will launching her debut novel Bitter Leaves in Edinburgh. Blackwell's will host an evening of book signing and a Q & A with our resident editor-slash-author (as well as wine); it's free to attend but tickets do sell out quickly, so head over to the event page if you'd like to book yours.
Friday 7th - Sunday 9th June 2019
Scotland’s Festival of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Writing will be held in June this year in our own, beloved Edinburgh. Publishers, writers and booksellers are coming together to enjoy talks, debates, writing classes, and, of course, buy books. Stirling Publishing will be there – selling our incredible books, of course – and we look forward to seeing you there.
Friday 30th August – Sunday 1st September
Adopting the theme of difference and otherness, Hastings Litfest is one of the most highly-anticipated book festivals in the country. It’s a great honour that we will be represented by two members of the Stirling Publishing family at the event: Lesley Glaister will be talking about Stone Cold Fox’s inaugural novel Aphra’s Child, and our commissioning editor Tabatha Stirling will be discussing her own book, Bitter Leaves, published by Unbound.
We’ll also have an incredibly important role in Hastings’ competition: Tabby will be the judge of their short story category, which is an incredible privilege in its own right, but Stirling Publishing will also be publishing the winners’ anthology. We’re delighted to be working so closely with a festival that seeks to supports writers at all levels.
We like to get involved with things, so it's best to follow us on Twitter or join our mailing list to keep up-to-date with our events.
